Welcome to Placer County Navy League

Citizens in Support of the Sea Services Since 1956

The next dinner meeting of the Placer County Navy League will be held on Monday, May 18th at the Auburn Veterans' Memorial Hall at 100 East Street. The doors will open for our social hour at 5:30 p.m., then dinner and the meeting begin at 6:30. The dinner is catered at $22.00 per person, and reservations are necessary and may be made by calling Bonnie Potter at 530-823-2820.  This month members and guests will meet and hear from Don Wolfe, who will talk about flying two Piper PA-18 Super Cubs from Washington to Alaska during the Covid pandemic. He will also tell about the Auburn Aviation Association Scholarship Program, which he directs, administering over $180,000.00 locally each year in aviation scholarships.

On Memorial Day, May 25th, please join us for a Remembrance Ceremony. The primary ceremony will be conducted at the War Memorial at the New Auburn Cemetery (1040 Collins Dr) at 9:00 AM. Entry to the cemetery will only be permitted on Collins Drive. There is ample parking in the cemetery so please drive through the cemetery gates, and staff will direct you to the parking areas. The ceremony will include the Luther Burbank High School Navy Junior ROTC Color Guard, the National Anthem sung by Kaelyn Cobabe, Pledge of Allegiance led by Valentina Cheng of the Sacramento Sea Cadets and remarks by Congressman Kevin Kiley, Vice Mayor Rachel Radell-Harris and Placer County Supervisor Cindy Gustafson. Flowers will be presented to Gold Star family members. There will be a wreath-laying, the rendering of honors for our departed comrades (a rifle salute by the Auburn Area Honor Guard and Taps played by Joel Aviles and Kevin Reyes), followed by a release of white doves.  Brief ceremonies with a wreath laying and the rendering of honors will follow at the Old Auburn Cemetery (170 Fulweiler, Auburn) at 10:00 AM, the Newcastle Cemetery (850 Taylor Rd, Newcastle) at 11:00 and the Maidu Indian Burial Ground (corner of Maidu Rd and Wildwood Dr in Auburn) at 12:00.

THE NAVY LEAGUE MISSION: Support, Advocate, Educate
 

ACTIVE-DUTY SUPPORT: Enhance the morale of active duty personnel and their families.

ADVOCACY: Provide a powerful voice to educate the public and Congress on the importance of strong sea services to our nation’s defense, well-being, and economic prosperity.

YOUTH EDUCATION: Support local youth character building programs, such as the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps and Navy Junior ROTC that expose young people to personal growth based on Honor, Courage, and Commitment.

About Placer County Council

Placer County Council was chartered by the Navy League in 1956. The Sacramento Council, also chartered in 1956, merged into the Placer County Council in October 2025, bringing the membership total to 240 in Placer, Sacramento and surrounding counties.

 

Our Key Activities include:

  • Monthly dinner meetings with speakers to keep us well informed.

  • Supporting our four adopted units: USS McCAMPBELL (DDG 85), an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer; Naval Health Clinic at Lemoore Naval Air Station, California, Naval Branch Health Clinic at Naval Air Station, Fallon, Nevada, and Coast Guard Air Station, Sacramento, California.

  • Providing awards to California Maritime Academy, Vallejo, Naval Science Department students.

  • Supporting the Navy JROTC Units at Luther Burbank High School and Yuba City High School, and the Marine Corps JROTC Unit at John F. Kennedy High School.

  • Supporting the Sacramento Sea Cadets, Matthew Axelson Yuba-Sutter Sea Cadets, Shasta Sea Cadets, Ticonderoga Sea Cadets and Gold Country Sea Cadets.

  • Providing scholarships to students in local schools.

  • Providing support to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs in local schools.
