At its July 21 dinner meeting, our members and guests will hear from State Fire Marshal Daniel Berlant. He has served as Fire Marshal since October 6, 2023. He has been with CAL FIRE since 2001, first as a volunteer, then in the Fire Prevention Bureau of the Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit, then in the Communications Office as a Fire Prevention Specialist in Sacramento. In 2008 he became Department Information Officer and was tasked with serving as CAL FIRE’s main spokesperson. In 2014 he was promoted to the Chief of Public Information, then in 2016 to Assistant Deputy Director at the Office of the State Fire Marshal. In 2021 the Community Wildfire Preparedness and Mitigation Division was established within the Office State Fire Marshal. In addition to his growing number of tasks, he will continue overseeing the OSFM Fire Engineering and Investigations Division.

About the Navy League
THE NAVY LEAGUE MISSION:
ACTIVE-DUTY SUPPORT: Enhance the morale of active duty personnel and their families.
ADVOCACY: Provide a powerful voice to educate the public and Congress on the importance of strong sea services to our nation’s defense, well-being, and economic prosperity.
YOUTH EDUCATION: Support local youth character building programs, such as the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps and Navy Junior ROTC that expose young people to personal growth based on Honor, Courage, and Commitment.
About Placer County Council
Placer County Council was chartered by the Navy League in 1956. The Council currently has 120 members in Placer and surrounding counties. Our Key Activities include:

Monthly dinner meetings with speakers to keep us well informed.

Supporting our three adopted units: USS McCAMPBELL (DDG 85), an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer; Naval Health Clinic at Lemoore Naval Air Station, California, and Naval Branch Health Clinic at Naval Air Station, Fallon, Nevada.

Providing awards to California Maritime Academy, Vallejo, Naval Science Department students.

Supporting the Navy JROTC Units at Luther Burbank High School and Yuba City High School.

Supporting the Sacramento Sea Cadets, the Yuba-Sutter Sea Cadets and the Shasta Sea Cadets.

Providing scholarships to students in local schools.

Providing support to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs in local schools.
